The Tavern Ain’t for Courtin’, Lad. Focus on the Game

Mike’s Opening Rant: It’s a Tavern, Not a Tinder Den

Had a bard once — silky shirt, big grin, dice full o’ false promises. Session one, we walk into a burnt-out village. Ash still risin’. Children cryin’. And what does he do?

“Can I seduce the blacksmith?”

Next week, a warlock flirts with a vampire mid-fight. Week after that, a rogue tries makin’ “meaningful eye contact” with the bartender in the middle of a plot drop.

Lad… I AIN’T SITTIN’ AT A TABLE FULL O’ WARRIORS JUST TO WATCH YA COURTIN’ HALF THE CAST!!

...Sorry, lad. Lost me temper there.

This is a game of dragons, not dates. There’s story to chase, dice to roll, and dungeons to delve. Leave the flirty nonsense for when the world ain’t endin’.

Don’t Break the Scene to Stroke Yer Ego

👉 At Mike’s Tavern, roleplay’s sacred — but it ain’t a stage for yer thirst. Learn to build story, not tension, in Tavern Etiquette or see what real engagement looks like in Player Builds & NPCs.

Seduction Is a Spice, Not a Meal

A little charm’s fine. A wink here. A joke there. But when every shopkeep becomes a love interest? When yer main tactic is “roll for hotness”? That ain’t playin’. That’s distractin’. Worse — it puts yer GM in a real awkward spot.

Not every NPC wants to be a target. Not every player wants to sit through yer flirty side quests. And not every game needs romantic tension like it’s a low-budget tavern soap.

Let the moment be what it is. If it naturally leads to interest — grand. But if yer forcing it like yer auditionin’ for a tavern calendar, we got a problem.

Respect the Tone, Not Just the Opportunity

This ain’t just about flirtin’. It’s about tone. If we’re in a horror dungeon, don’t purr at the vampire lord. If we’re talkin’ strategy, don’t make eyes at the barkeep. Read the room — and I mean the real one, not the fantasy one.

Need to see how to do it right?

Roleplay depth. Not desperation.

FAQ

Q: But what if my character would flirt?
A: Grand. Then let it happen naturally. Once. Maybe twice. Not every scene. And not every NPC.

Q: What if the GM flirts back?
A: If it fits the story and tone, fine. But ask yerself — are ya buildin’ tension or breakin’ immersion?

Q: What if I’m just tryin’ to be funny?
A: Lad, there’s a difference between funny and awkward. Don’t gamble with other folks’ comfort for a laugh.

Fantasy’s Great, Lad — But Consent, Tone, and Timing Still Matter

👉 Mike’s Tavern is where we roleplay bold, but respectfully. If yer seduction routine’s killin’ the story, it’s time to re-roll that charisma into somethin’ useful. Visit Player Tips | Talk to Mike
