Standing Your Ground When a GM Plays Rules Lawyer

I once played under a GM who enforced every rule rigidly and tried to dictate how the players enjoyed the game. My solution was simple: stay within reason but refuse to cave to unreasonable demands. I played my character fairly and made it clear, through actions, that fun mattered as much as rules. When that didn’t change his approach, I found a different table that valued cooperative play.

Sometimes the only way to deal with a rules‑lawyer GM is to protect your own enjoyment and, if necessary, move on.
