Brimstone Wishbone

“Snap it, and ya might get a miracle. Or yer spleen relocated. Either way—fun fer the crowd.”

The Brimstone Wishbone is a devil-forged twinblade made of fused bone and volcanic brass, wrapped in sigils that shift when ya blink. Its center grip houses two curved spines that resemble an oversized wishbone—thin, delicate, and utterly cursed. Snap one, and fate bends around ya… just not always in the direction ya hoped.

Mike once watched a rogue crack one during a bluff roll. She won the hand, stole the crown, and turned into a frog two hours later. “Still better than losing,” he shrugged.

Be careful what ya wish for, lad. It might stab ya back.

Brimstone Wishbone – Weapon Stats

Weapon Type: Martial Melee Weapon (Versatile)
Damage: 1d10 slashing (1d12 when wielded two-handed)
Properties: Versatile, magical (requires attunement)
Special: Fate Splitter

  • Break the Bone (2/long rest):
As a bonus action, snap one of the wishbone ridges and immediately gain one of the following (roll 1d4):

    1. Auto-hit: Your next attack hits without rolling.

    2. Auto-save: You pass the next saving throw this turn.

    3. Auto-crit: If your next hit lands, it’s a critical hit.

    4. Counter-Curse: You gain resistance to all damage until the start of your next turn.

However, the GM rolls a secret d6:
On a roll of 1, the effect is inverted or twisted in some way.

  • Hellborn Edge:
Deals +2 fire damage on each hit. This damage bypasses resistance, but not immunity.

  • Unstable Balance:
While attuned, you disadvantage all initiative rolls, but gain advantage on death saves. (Because fate loves drama.)

  • Cursed – Pact Echo:
Each time a wishbone is snapped, the wielder hears a voice in their sleep offering "a better deal.” Say yes, and the DM takes notes. Lots of notes.

GM Notes:

A chaotic mid-late campaign weapon. Fits best with warlocks, risk-taking fighters, or anyone who rolls dice like they’re playin’ chicken with fate. Drop this into infernal ruins, gambling dens, or the vault of a ruined pact-bound king. Best paired with players who love consequences.

For a thematic party combo, pair with:

Snap. Twist. Pray. Repeat.

FAQ

Q: Can the player choose the fate effect when snapping the bone?
A: Nope. That’d make it a plan. This weapon don’t like plans.

Q: Can you “unsnap” the bone if you don’t like the result?
A: If you can put the marrow back in, lad, be my guest.

Q: What happens if a player says yes to the “better deal”?
A: Well, hope yer GM has a notebook and a wicked grin. Because that’s a new arc, right there.
