Gravedust Leathers

“If yer gonna sneak through a graveyard, best smell like ya belong in one.”

These leathers ain’t stitched from any ol’ hide. They’re made from funeral wrappings, dyed in ash, and soaked in incense smoke and embalming oil. Lightweight, silent, and always a little too cold, the Gravedust Leathers were crafted by crypt thieves who figured the best way to avoid the dead… was to dress like them.

Mike once wore it on a dare through a necromancer’s lair. “Didn’t get touched,” he said. “Mostly ‘cause they was all busy followin’ my shadow.”

For when ya need to move through the dead without joinin’ ‘em.
👉 Sneak past ghosts, dodge necromancers, and look morbidly fashionable doing it. Find it in the dusty corner of the Tavern Armory or whisper yer questions to the bar—softly, now.

Gravedust Leathers – Armor Stats

Type: Light Armor
AC Bonus: 11 + Dex modifier
Requirements: None
Stealth: Advantage against undead
Weight: Light (10 lbs)
Attunement: Yes
Special: Dead Don’t See What Ain’t Livin’

  • Funeral Fade (Passive):
While wearing Gravedust Leathers, you gain advantage on Stealth checks against undead and creatures with blindsight based on life-force or heartbeat.

  • Scent of Stillness:
Undead creatures that rely on scent, tremorsense, or magical detection treat you as one step less hostile unless directly provoked. They must succeed a Wisdom save (DC 13) to engage you unless you attack or speak.

  • Moonless Attraction (Curse):
On nights when there is no moon, you attract spiritual residue. Each such night, roll a d100:

    • 01–20: Harmless whispering

    • 21–60: Minor undead trail you at a distance (1d4 skeletons or shadows)

    • 61–100: A ghost follows you silently for the next day. It doesn’t attack… unless spoken to.

  • Dustwoven:
The armor never takes bloodstains. But ash? Ash clings. Always.

GM Notes:

Great for rogues, rangers, or necromancer-adjacent characters. Use in crypt-heavy campaigns, undead storylines, or stealth arcs where “alive” is a liability. Pairs well with:

The dead can’t smell fear. But they can smell soap. This armor? Smells like regret.
👉 If ya want to walk unnoticed through a crypt, the Tavern Armory’s got yer back. Literally. It smells awful, but it works.

FAQ

Q: Does the “one step less hostile” effect work on intelligent undead?
A: If they rely on sight or scent? Aye. But liches ain’t fooled. They’ll just laugh longer.

Q: Can I wash it?
A: You can. But the ghosts will not be happy. And neither will the laundry staff.

Q: What happens if a ghost follows me and I talk to it?
A: Depends on the ghost. Some just moan. Others… don’t like being noticed.
